YOU THINK A WILD ANIMAL NEEDS HELP?
STEP ONE: MAKE SURE IT REALLY NEEDS TO BE RESCUED
If the animal appears alert and active or is trying to escape, it is probably healthy. We must then leave them alone. Often animals are brought to wildlife centers when they do not need care. This damages their health, reduces their chance of survival, and puts other animals at risk.
The SPCA Roussillon, in partnership with wildlife specialists, intervenes when small wild animals are in bad shape or need assistance.
If you see an animal that is suffering from apparent injuries, breathing problems, or confusion, please call your animal services immediately.
CAUTION: NEVER SEPARATE BABIES FROM THEIR MOTHER
People often try to “save” young animals they believe have been abandoned without realizing that they are really kidnapping them. Most of the time, these young animals are healthy and their mothers are not far away.
Babies need their mother’s presence early in life, otherwise their chances of survival are slim.
On behalf of all animals, we ask you to be aware of this situation. Assume all wild animals you see are mothers with children. If you want to help them, don’t bother them.

4 THINGS TO REMEMBER ABOUT WILDLIFE BABIES:
It is false to believe that a young animal will be abandoned by its parents if you touch it,
but still wear gloves.
