The SPCA Roussillon is a charitable organization whose mission is to help animals in distress, without owners, or victims of neglect. We provide animal services across a territory covering more than 38 municipalities in the region. Our adoption center welcomes families from across Quebec and neighboring provinces, and helped more than 2,105 animals find a family last year.

We are looking for someone to join our team as a Kennel caretaker and patroler. This person will work mainly with the dogs we welcome at the shelter (stray, abandoned, etc.) and on the road.

Kennel Attendant:

  • Follow all biosecurity protocols in effect at the shelter at all times.
  • Ensure that every dog in the kennel has access to fresh water, food, and essential supplies such as a blanket and toys.
  • Make sure all dogs receive regular outings throughout the day, in accordance with established protocols.
  • Verify that the maintenance and cleaning of all rooms designated for dogs have been completed according to shelter standards.
  • Disinfect empty kennels according to protocols so they are ready to welcome new dogs.
  • Participate in enrichment activities for the dogs’ well-being: outdoor playtime, walks, positive interactions, etc.
  • Administer basic medications and report any relevant observations related to the dogs’ health, communicating important information to the medical team.
  • Perform any other related tasks associated with your duties or requested by administration.

Patrol Officer:

  • Follow all biosecurity protocols in effect at the shelter at all times.
  • Carry out service or patrol calls assigned to you (e.g., stray, deceased or injured animal, seizure, assistance during police interventions, handling complaints).
  • Ensure patrol vehicles are clean, in good working condition, and equipped with the necessary equipment at all times.
  • Maintain and ensure the proper functioning of the room dedicated to receiving wildlife animals.
  • Inform citizens about provincial and municipal laws and conduct awareness activities related to domestic animals and wildlife.
  • Intervene in collaboration with police services and the Ministry of Wildlife when required.
  • Write intervention reports and complete all documentation necessary for case management.
  • Perform any other related tasks associated with your role or requested by administration.

Desired qualities and skills:

  • Be 18 years of age or older.
  • Hold a valid driver’s license.
  • Availability to work one weekend out of two.
  • Demonstrate the ability to collaborate effectively as part of a team.
  • Experience in the animal care field or in a similar position (an asset).
  • Demonstrate attention to detail, reliability, and good organizational skills.
  • Show a deep respect for all animals and a constant concern for their well-being.
  • Be comfortable working in proximity to cats, dogs, exotic animals, and wildlife.
